Gospel: Matthew 6:25-33
Sermon Title: "Giving Back to God"
Theme:
Thanksgiving is a time of the year most Americans love and respect. It is a time filled with historical significance when many look back and reflect upon their great American heritage. For many, if not most Americans, Thanksgiving is a time of family gatherings with all the traditional foods. It is a time that most Americans enjoy and for which they will, at least momentarily, pause to give thanks.
Charles Dickens once said that we are somewhat mixed up here in America. He told an audience that instead of having one Thanksgiving Day each year we should have 364. "Use that one day just for complaining and griping," he said. "Use the other 364 days to thank God each day for the many blessings He has showered upon you."
For Christians, giving thanks to God should not be confined to a single day or to a special worship service. Giving thanks to God is an essential element of all we do.
