Gospel: Luke 2:8-12
Sermon Title: "Why Jesus? Turning Things Upside Down"
Theme:
This is the first in a sermon series for Lent that is designed to answer two questions: Who is Jesus Christ? And why do we follow Him today?
The Gospel reading for this sermon from Luke is an odd reading to have for the 1st Sunday of Lent but it is the appropriate place to start seeking answers to our questions about Jesus. We will be focusing on Jesus and what the Gospel of Luke has to say to us throughout Lent starting here in Chapter 2.
Different people have different ideas about defining what was important regarding a person's life. What were that person's most important experiences? Well, when it came to the gospels each of the four gospel writers had to pick - what were the stories, what were the sayings, what were the unique things Jesus did that were defining for Him. And as you might imagine all four of the gospel writers would see that in somewhat different ways. Today we will review several passages from Luke and look at how Jesus would routinely turn things upside down as He describes the kingdom of God.
